Music Video —Lesson Plan
is a web-based tool for remixing web videos. With the aid of, students can learn about media creation and media messaging by importing YouTube, Vimeo, HTML 5 videos, or SoundCloud tracks and by easily dropping in text, pop-ups, Twitter feeds, maps, or even pauses and repetitions to put a fresh, creative spin on existing content. As an easy-to-use tool for remixing web videos and audio tracks with many of the same fundamental features as more complex editing programs, Popcorn Maker provides an accessible entry point into media creation and audio/video editing. The catch: the user can only work within a single video (no cutting between two or more videos). Still, its low barrier to entry both in cost and ease of use more than makes up for this limitation, and Popcorn Maker provides rich opportunities to be creative, helping students make and share finished products that can be fun and informative.
By making digital creation accessible, Popcorn Maker helps students gain key technological literacies, potentially spurring interest in video and audio editing.
With proper facilitation, students might also combine their media creations with critical reflection on how visual media is constructed and persuasive. And since Popcorn Maker allows real-time previewing and simple sharing/remixing of projects, students are instantly gratified by seeing what they’ve done, and student projects can be further modified by others.
